George J. Doppel Sr.'s Obituary
George Joseph Doppel, Sr., age 97, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Poppen Residence. He was born June 18, 1925 in Muskegon to John and Rica (Sikkenga) Doppel and lived his entire life in the area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during WWII. On November 18, 1950, he married Theresa M. Rebone in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2021. George worked over 30 years as a TV Technician at area appliance and electric stores and retired from Cook’s Appliance in 1989. He then worked 12 years as a Security Guard for Terrace Plaza in Muskegon. George was a longtime member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where he sang in the Men’s Choir, and served as an usher. He was a Catholic War Veteran and sang with the Muskegon Cosmops Men’s Chorus. Survivors include 5 children, George (Mary) Doppel, Jr., Kathleen Doppel, Sue Ann Miller, Gregory Doppel, Sheryl (Jon) Jacobson; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters, Helen Burke, Ruth Smith, and Gloria Pasco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, February 25, 2023 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (1716 Sixth Street) with Rev. Charles D. Hall presiding. Visitation will be held 5-7:30 PM Friday at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441 where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at church one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
