George M. Oosting Jr.'s Obituary
George Menno Oosting Jr, age 93, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, after a short illness. George was born on September 2, 1929, in Muskegon, to his parents George Oosting Sr. and Clara (Johnson) Oosting. A proud Big Red, George graduated from Muskegon High School in 1947 and then went on to receive his Associate’s degree from Muskegon Community College. George proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On April 23, 1955, George married the former Patricia “Pat” Race, and they spent 67 wonderful years together. George was very involved in the community of Roosevelt Park, serving as a councilman for 11 years and then as the mayor for two years. He enjoyed frequenting local dining establishments, especially eating lunch at The Station with Pat every Friday for 40 years. He was a lover of all animals, especially his beloved dogs Duke and Teddy. George enjoyed watching Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs baseball and Detroit Lions Football, and he took a lot of pride in keeping his yard well-groomed. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Pat; two sons: Jon and Jim Oosting; two grandchildren: Michael and Emily Oosting; and sister, Betty (Gerald) Crenno. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother Robert (Beverly) Oosting. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be taking place for George at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 20, at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI, 49441, with VISITATION taking place a half hour before the service from 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM.
