George I. Rillema's Obituary
George I. Rillema, age 88, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at home. He was born on March 13, 1936, to George and Blanche (Brown) Rillema in Muskegon, MI. He graduated from Muskegon High School class of 1954. George was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He was part of the 82nd and 11th Airborne Division. George was a dedicated employee of the Bricklayers Union, which he became a part of in 1959, retiring in 1998. On September 23, 1960, he married the love of his life, Carmen Anderson in Muskegon. Together they cherished 59 years full of love, laughter and endless rides in their beautiful turquoise 57’ Chevy Bel Air. He was a classic car fanatic, member of the Travel Trailer Club of the Midwest (TTCM) and Puddle Jumper Car Club. George was an avid golfer and was a member of the Sons of Norway Golf Club. He also enjoyed bowling and playing cards. George was a skilled woodworker and took pride in keeping his yard in a “golf course” like pristine condition. Above all, his family was his world, and he cherished the moments spent with them. George will always be remembered as a wonderful dad, a doting grandpa and great-grandpa, and amazing brother who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his two children, Tammy (Dave) Magnant of Twin Lake, Timothy (Donna) Rillema of N. Muskegon; five grandchildren, Mark Hysell, Bradley Hysell, Bree Dykstra, Sarah (Nazar) Kluchkovskiy, and Joseph (Meredith) Rillema; 6 great-grandchildren, Levi, Olivia, Jaxson, Parker, Bo and Brenna; brother, Larry (Joan) Rillema; two sisters, Mary (Faye) George and Laurie (Mike) Wisniewski; numerous nieces and nephews; beloved dog, Robbie; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Carmen Rillema; brother, Lee Rillema; and sister, Beth Graftema. A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 2, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with a visitation one-hour prior. Memorial Contributions in his honor can be directed to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
