Mr. George Harold Roest's Obituary
Mr. George Harold Roest, age 88, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus December 2, 2017. George was born September 29, 1929 in Muskegon to Jacob and Edith (Olson) Roest. George served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1951. On December 11, 1953, George married the former Martha B. Welch. He has left behind Martha “Dolly”, his wife of 64 years; his sons, Dale (Debbie) Roest, Gene Roest, and Michael (Kelley) Roest; his daughters, Judy (Bruce) Tyler and Rebecca (William) Miller; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, William Roest; his brother and best friend, Donald; his 7 sisters, Marion, Dorothy, Helen, Lillian, Margaret, Arlene, and Eleanor; all of whom he loved dearly and missed. George was a humble, caring, “hurry up and get it done” type of guy. He was born in the house that his father built and was very proud to call it his home. It was a place where a he raised his 5 kids and had lived in his entire life. George cherished his 4 years in the Navy on the destroyer USS Gurke and enjoyed telling stories about it. He worked at Enterprise Brass Works for 35 years as a maintenance man prior to his retirement in 1989. He went back to school to graduate when he was 44 years of age! George especially loved having his grandkids over to “the house”, one at a time, or all 14 at once. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Thursday, December 7, 2017 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church 1206 Whitehall Rd with Rev. William Uetricht officiating and Full Military Rites afforded under the auspices of VFW #8846 Don Rea Post. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM).
