George Mikhail Saqqa's Obituary
Mr. George Mikhail Saqqa, age 76, passed away Sunday evening, September 8, 2013, at a local hospital. George was born October 23, 1936 in Jerusalem, Palestine to Mikhail G. and Helen El (Qass) Saqqa. He grew up in Bethlehem where he was a phenomenal tennis and soccer player. After his graduation, he left to Kuwait and lived there until 1990. George attended the American University in Beirut and was fluent in three languages. On August 31, 1972, George married the former Samira Hamati in Amman, Jordan. George worked for the National Bank of Kuwait prior to bringing his family to the United States in 1990. He then became the owner and operator of K-Discount for many years prior to his retirement in 2008. He also coached his children’s soccer teams when they were younger. George was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to Samira, his wife of 41 years, George is survived by his children Ellen (Andrew) Ponton of Colorado, Mike Saqqa of Joplin, MO, Samer (Gina M.) Saqqa of Auburn Hills, MI, and Majed Saqqa of Spring Lake; granddaughter, Maria Saqqa; one brother, Sylvio (Lillian) Saqqa of Montreal, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 920 Fulton Ave., Grand Haven, with Rev. Fr. William Langlois as celebrant. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8 PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey Street
