George R. Secord's Obituary
Mr. George R. Secord, age 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born on March 11, 1946 to Herman and Cecilia (Beyrle) Secord in Muskegon. A lifelong resident of the area, George graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1965. He then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970 from the Navy and continued his military career in the United States Army Reserves. George worked for the City of Muskegon as an Environment Inspector for 36 years before retiring in 2000 and was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. On May 26, 1984 he married the former Helene (Wirkutis) Uher and they spent 38 wonderful years together. George loved the time spent with his four grandchildren and the many, many memories created with them. George will be remembered by his wife, Helene; children, Jami Uher, Tony (Maria) Secord, and Angela (Adam) Hayford; grandchildren, Aaron Hayford (Emily Vavro), Austin Hayford, Mikahla Koehler, and AriElla Secord; siblings, Joe Secord, Jim (Sue) Secord, Theresa Secord, and Chuck (Terri) Secord; along with his furry friends, Rusty-Big-Bob-Henry and Mittens. George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Phillip, Patricia, and Elizabeth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, February 14 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1716 6th St., Muskegon, 49441. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00AM with the Rosary prayed at 9:30AM, all at church. Memorial contributions in George’s memory may be directed to Harbor Hospice Foundation. The Secord Family would like to thank the phenomenal staff at The Poppen House for all the incredible care and attention provided to George during his time there.
