Clinton George Shaffer's Obituary
Clinton George Shaffer, age 95, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away on March 13, 2026. He was born on October 14, 1930, in Shelby, Michigan, to Clinton and Lida (Knapp) Shaffer. George graduated from Shelby High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He later worked as a pipefitter for SD Warren and Scott Paper Company.
On February 5, 1951, George married the love of his life, Mary Lou Derks, and together they shared 75 wonderful years of marriage.
George was a devoted family man who took great pride in providing for those he loved. He found joy in fishing, golfing, singing, and cheering on his favorite teams, the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers. In retirement, George and Mary Lou especially treasured their time spent wintering in Pompano Beach, Florida.
George is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Shaffer; children, Alan Shaffer, Jeanette VanDyken, James (Susan) Shaffer, and George (Joe Austin) Shaffer; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. George is preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith Shaffer; siblings, Maurice Shaffer, Darrel Shaffer, Lester Shaffer, Leora Gray, Mildred Backa, Eva Jordan, and Lois Bush.
A memorial service for George will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm at First Wesleyan Church, 1040 E Forest Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Wesleyan Church.
