George VerHage's Obituary
Mr. George VerHage, age 83, went to be with his Lord Friday afternoon, March 19, 2004. He was born August 19, 1920 to George and Jasmine (Cummings) VerHage, Sr. in Ferry Michigan, and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. George loved the Lord, his family, and his church, and served them all well. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII from 1942-1946 in the Pacific Theater, receiving the distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal, with 4 gold stars for meritorious service. He was a member and past commander of the D.A.V. He worked at Consumers Power / Consumers Energy for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Forest Home Reformed Church, and a charter member of Hope Reformed Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Youth Leader, and Sunday School Teacher for many years. He married Muriel Semeyn on November 27, 1946, and she survives him along with 2 daughters, Colleen (Rick) Werley of Muskegon, Jeanne VerHage of Zeeland; 2 granddaughters, Becky (Todd) Hekkema, Sarah Werley; 1 great-grandson, Logan Hekkema; 1 brother, Ned (Lorraine) VerHage of Elk Rapids; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant son Scott. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday at Hope Reformed Church, 1878 Evanston Ave., with Reverend Steven Hyma officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210 will be from 7-9 PM Sunday evening, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
