George Wierenga's Obituary
Mr. George Wierenga, age 93, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020. He was born October 23, 1926 in Eastmanville to William F. and Anna (Olthof) Wierenga. On June 17, 1954 he married Ruth VanDyke and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2019.
George was a lifelong member of Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon, and janitor for over 20 years. He also was in the church bowling league for many years as well. He was a talented woodworker and built many sets of furniture and other keepsakes over the years. He was loved by all and will be very missed.
He is lovingly remembered by three children: Debra Rodrigues, Edward (Debra) Wierenga, and Betty (Phil) Leech, all of Spring Lake; five grandchildren: Kurt (Maria) Rodrigues, Dawn (Kevin) Buzzell, Jeff (Renee) Wierenga, Juli (Nick) Holmes, and Keith Wilcoxson; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; He is also survived by six siblings: Bill (Arlene) Wierenga, Ken Wierenga, Jon Wierenga, Alice (Jim) Whitwam, David Wierenga and Roy (Sue) Wierenga; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son, Andrew; son-in-law, Terry Rodrigues; siblings: Harold Wierenga, Eugene Wierenga, Jeanette Rycenga, Etta Peterson, Joan Bolthouse, Willene Brondyke Wezeman.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, August 31, 2020 at Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Michael Westerveld officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service outside at church. COVID 19 restrictions of social distancing and masks will be required. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of George may be given to Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
