George Zysk's Obituary
George Thaddeus Zysk, age 89, of Grand Haven passed away Monday, October 17, 2005, at the Veteran’s Home in Grand Rapids. He was born June 20, 1916, to George and Sophia (Garecki) Zysk in Grand Haven, MI; and married Mary Lou Koats on May 29, 1948, in Grand Haven.
Mr. Zysk was a graduate of Grand Haven High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for Oldberg Mfg. (AP Parts), retiring in 1981; and was a former member of the American Legion-Charles Conklin Post 28 and the Sgt. Alvin Jonker-VFW Post 2326 in Grand Haven. Mr. Zysk was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Spring Lake. He was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking and skiing; and water skiing and his grandchildren.
Mr. Zysk leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou; his daughter Leslie (Thomas) Franks of Portage, and family Andrew and Emily; his son Craig (Margaret) Zysk of Grand Haven and daughter Kathryn; a sister, Patricia (Raymond) Masko of Grand Haven; a brother, Stanley (Ceil) Zysk of Spring Lake; brother-in-law, Harold Koats, Spring Lake; several nieces and nephews. His sister Helen Duga; and four brothers, Henry, Edward, John, and Stuart Zysk, preceded him in death.
A funeral liturgy for George T. Zysk will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Leonard Sudlik as celebrant. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Military rites will be provided under the auspices of the American Legion-Charles Conklin Post 28. Friends may meet the family 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., with a scripture service at 8:45 p.m., Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
