George and I became close friends in high school through our shared love of music. He was a very fine trombonist, and I loved hearing him play. He also seemed able to transcend the self-consciousness many teens contend with, and had a gift for reaching out to everyone. Although George was in the grade ahead of me, he would often stop me in the hall just to find out what new flute music I was working on. What a sweet guy! He was always kind, deeply caring, and applauded the accomplishments of his friends.
Also, he had a great sense of humor. I remember several times, the two of us just laughing ourselves silly. What a great memory for me!
In more recent years, Rick and I began connecting with George on our frequent trips to Muskegon, especially through St. Michael's. He was so proud of his nieces and nephews, and always shared with us their accomplishments and most recent pictures.
The last long conversation I had with him took place this past fall. He confided in me many of his dreams for the future, and we talked about our memories of his Dad. I'll always cherish that day.
I am very sad he left us so soon and I'll miss him a lot, but I know this world is a better place because of George and I am honored that he considered me as one of his good friends.
Our sincerest condolences to his family. Jane Sytek and Rick Davies
