George F. Dean's Obituary
Mr. George F. Dean, age 89, passed away Wednesday morning, June 30, 2010 in Muskegon. He was born June 25, 1921 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada to Stephen H. and Sarah J. (Porter) Dean, and came to the Muskegon area when he was five years old. Mr. Dean owned Northshore Ace Hardware for 56 years before retiring in 1986, and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He played professional hockey for two farm clubs owned by the Chicago Black Hawks in Kansas City and Dallas, enjoyed golf, bowling, raising his family, and his Circle of Friends at his church, Central United Methodist. On June 19, 1948 he married Lois “June” Schramm in Muskegon. SURVIVORS include his wife June; 5 children, Linda Roberts of N. Muskegon, Wendy (Roy) Johnson of Fond du Lac, WI, Kevin (Ann) Dean, Gregory (Patricia) Dean, Timothy (Mary) Dean, all of N. Muskegon; 14 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother-in-law, Roy (Nancy) Baker of New Mexico; 1 sister-in-law, Barbara (Ken) Boerma of Spring Lake; special friend, Dennis Shafer of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Dennis Dean; 2 brothers, 9 sisters; 1 son-in-law, Alfred Roberts. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Central United Methodist Church, with Rev. Diane L. Gordon and Rev. Dean Bailey officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Central United Methodist Church Columbarium. VISITATION at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 will be from 6-8 PM Friday evening.
