George Joseph Kartes' Obituary
Mr. George Joseph Kartes, age 83, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, January 7, 2007 following a lengthy illness. He was born April 13, 1923 in Muskegon to Peter and Mae (Bisson) Kartes and lived his entire life in the area. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force and served during World War II. George was a barber for 25 years and co-owned Beidler Street Barber Shop. He later worked 17 years as a security guard for Hackley Hospital. He was a member of the former Church of Prophecy. On April 13, 1971, he married the former Maxine J. Wassernaar in Muskegon and she survives him along with 3 children, Roy (JoAnn) Kartes of Norton Shores, Rhonda (David) Hunt of Montague, Stephen (Barbara) Kartes of Norton Shores; 1 sister, Marie McMillan of Muskegon; 1 sister-in-law, Clara Kartes of Muskegon; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, William and Raymond Kartes. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565, with the Rev. Mary Riegler officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service, 12-1 PM Wednesday.
