George N. Giroux's Obituary
Mr. George N. Giroux, age 92, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2006, at a local nursing home. He was born October 20, 1913, to George F. and Agnes (Cody) Giroux in Muskegon. After graduation from St. Jean’s Catholic High School, he served his country as an Army Medic, during World War II. On March 7, 1942, George married the former Leila Ethel Sheringer in Chattanooga, TN. and she survives him. Mr. Giroux was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, becoming the supervisor of mail prior to his retirement in 1970. George was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, enjoyed traveling, fishing, and playing cards. He is SURVIVED by his wife of nearly 64 years, Leila; 3 children, Michael Louis Giroux of Arizona, Joseph Robert (Pam) Giroux of Muskegon, and Marie Diane (Michael) Skwark of Rochester, MI; a daughter-in-law, Amy Giroux of Grand Haven; 14 Grandchildren; 9 Great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Loretta Shultz and Florence MacArthur both of Florida.; and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Harris William; 2 brothers, Robert and Louis; and a sister, Lucille Perrin. A MEMORIAL MASS will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 6, 2006 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Rev Fr. Phil Sliwinski as presider. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church.
