Gerald A. Bogner's Obituary
Gerald A. Bogner of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence at the age of 89. The middle son of the late John and Hazel Bogner, he was born in Cadillac, MI on April 3rd, 1927. Jerry proudly served his country with the U.S. Army in World War II from 1945-1946. He married his college sweetheart, Lou Radtke on March 25, 1949 in Ludington, MI. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1951, and was recalled to the U.S. Army from 1951- 1953, where he served a tour of duty in the Korean War as a First Lieutenant.
Jerry was a pharmaceutical representative – a career he truly enjoyed. Jerry had many interests throughout his life, including the noisy games of bridge with Lou and their friends, as well as home rehabilitation and furniture restoration. The family went camping frequently when their children were young, and enjoyed many a picnic and post-dinner dip in Lake Michigan where Hoffmaster State Park is now located. Jerry loved wintering in Tucson, Arizona, and deeply appreciated the beauty and majesty of the desert. But most of all, he loved his family and his grandchildren. He loved fishing with his grandchildren (we’re not sure who enjoyed it more, Sam and Libby, or Jerry!). He was a devoted MSU sports fan as well.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lou; one daughter, Betsy (Bradley) Wong of Portage, MI; one son, Andy (Patricia) Bogner of Grand Blanc, MI; and two grandchildren, Libby Bogner of Detroit, and Sam (Emily) Demorest of Kalamazoo, MI, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Gentry, and two brothers, John and Lawrence Bogner.
A private family graveside service will be held at Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
