Mr. Gerald L. Deater's Obituary
Mr. Gerald L. “Gerry” Deater, 87, passed away Friday afternoon, April 28, 2014 in Muskegon. Born September 7, 1926 to Rufus and Geraldine (Bowen) Deater, he was a life resident of Muskegon. Gerry married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Lynch on March 26, 1954 in Angola, IN, and she survives him. He was a veteran of the US Merchant Marines and US Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict eras. He retired as a machinist at Shaw Box Conveyors in 1990 after working there 40 years. Gerry had been an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, serving as head Elder and as a member of the choir. He was also a founding member of Churchill Athletic Assn. His SURVIVORS include his wife, Betty; children: Rebecca Rudat, Michelle (Bill) Curtis, Mark (Regina) Deater, and Tim (Billie) Deater; eight grandchildren: Nicholas and Dustin Rudat, Tonya (Mark) Drum, Dustin Curtis, Jeanette Deater, Vincent Bennett, and Brittney and Casey Deater; a brother, Dan (Marilyn) Deater; and sisters Pat Carlson and Geraldine Peterson. Gerry enjoyed sports, deer hunting, card playing, and traveling with his family, especially to Montreal’s Worlds Fair, Yellowstone, and Germany. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 2, 2014 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444, phone 231-798-1100; with Pastor Mark Gilson officiating. VISITATION will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M.
