Gerald E. "Jerry" Cherry's Obituary
Gerald E. “Jerry” Cherry, age 73, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 29, 2018 in Muskegon. He was born on August 4, 1945 in Muskegon to George and Bertha (Morrow) Cherry and resided in the area his entire life. Jerry was a member of the Polish Union and Viking’s Lodge. He was employed by Sappi for 38 years, prior to his retiring in 2005. Jerry enjoyed boating, deer hunting, traveling with his motorhome and going to Florida. On September 11, 1982, Jerry married the former Geraldine “Gerri” Veltman and she survives him along with their children, Rick (Brenda), Debora Cherry and Mike (Katie) Johnson; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, James (Sylvia) Cherry, in-laws, Barb Veltman, Sally Rundquist and Rod (Wendy) Veltman. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tracy; brothers, Howard Wade and Wayne Cherry; brother-in-law, Jake Veltman and his parents. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 1:00PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held following the service at Viking’s Lodge, 3132 Lakeshore Drive, 49441. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
