Gerald J. Tuuk's Obituary
Mr. Gerald “Jerry” “Red” John Tuuk, age 88, passed away Monday afternoon, October 13, 2014, at the Poppen Residence. He was born February 3, 1926 in Muskegon to John and Agnes (Doorn) Tuuk and had been a life resident of the area. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served in Central Europe, under the command of General Patton. He was an active life-member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, where had served as an Elder, Deacon, Men’s Society member and on the “Count-team”. Prior to his retirement, “Red” had been employed at Shaw-Walker for 41 years. On May 13, 1949 he married the former Joyce Postma and she preceded him in death on January 5, 2014, after 64 years of marriage. SURVIVORS include his 4 children, Roger (Becky) Tuuk of Fremont, Jean (Michael) Freye and Linda Medema of Muskegon, Bob (Krista) Tuuk of Waterford, MI; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan Tuuk, Jason Freye, Nick (Kari) Freye, Leslie (Andy) Stafford, Patrick (Amy) Freye, Nick (Jodi) Medema, Ben (Julie) Medema, Dan Medema, Abbey Medema and Olivia, Logan and Jacob Tuuk; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Grace (Leonard) Brink of Allendale; and by many nieces and nephews. Jerry was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Ruth Marie, his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Drewes and Grace Tuuk. FUNERAL SERVICES for Jerry will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 17, 2014, at Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 695 Allen Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 with the Revs. Ken Vanderlaan and Tom Pettinga officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION will be held 2-4 and 6-8PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210). Contributions in memory of Jerry may be given to Harbor Hospice or the Collin’s Fund c/o Muskegon County Community Foundation.
