Gerald "Jerry" W. Gervais' Obituary
Mr. Gerald W. Gervais, age 87, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in Muskegon. He was born on March 29, 1927 to Vital and Edith (Wylie) Gervais in Windsor Ontario, Canada and came to the U.S. at 2 years of age. Jerry loved sports of all kinds, especially loved to play golf, football, and baseball. He played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jerry was a member of the White Lake Golf Club for 50 years. He enlisted in the Navy Air Corps at 17 years old during WW II, and was trained as an aviation radio man. Jerry graduated from Albion College with a BA, and from Michigan State with a master’s degree. He spent his entire career in Reeths-Puffer school system. Jerry first taught and coached Jr. High sports for 8 years, before becoming the first principal of Laketon Jr. High School. He remained in that position for 27 years, before retiring in 1987. Jerry’s wife Kay of 43 years survives him along with children Pat, Jeanne, Jill Johnson, Kathy, and Terri Bourdon. Jerry also has 8 grandsons. Those wishing to donate to a charity might choose the Gerald and Kay Gervais Scholarship Fund at Albion College, or Harbor Hospice. At Jerry’s request, there will be no funeral.
