Gerald G. Mattson's Obituary
Gerald Gustav Mattson, age 71, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Lakewoods Nursing Home. He was born April 11, 1950 in Muskegon to Carl R. and Viola (Elwell) Mattson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On August 8, 2009, Jerry married Julie VanDyken in Muskegon. He worked 17 years at Sun Chemical and 7 years at Walmart prior to retirement. Jerry was a member of Fruitland Evangelical Covenant Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Julie Mattson; 1 son, Charles G. (Gemmie) Mattson and their daughters, Cloey and Olivia; and 1 brother, John (Christy) Mattson and 5 step children; Sherri Rinzema, Karen Oostema, Kevin VanDyken, Sandra Hirons and Jodi VanDyken. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith (Hogendyke) Mattson and his brother, James (Suzanne) Mattson. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442. Graveside Services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Laketon Township Cemetery where Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Following the graveside, please join the family for lunch and fellowship at Russ’s Restaurant, (Holton Rd.) M-120 in North Muskegon.
