Gerald John "Jerry" "Jud" Messing's Obituary
Gerald John "Jerry" "Jud" Messing, age 70, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Trinity Health - Muskegon Campus. He was born July 15, 1954 in Minden City, MI to Gerald J. and Mary C. (Oswald) Messing and lived in the Fruitport area for the past 24 years. Jerry worked as a facility manager for several food production companies in Spring Lake. He was a lifelong Volunteer Firefighter and EMT for Delaware and Chester Township. He loved farming as he was raised on a farm from childhood. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a member of the Knight of Columbus in Conklin where he tended bar for several years. Jerry had a big heart and was loved by all. Those who knew him will always remember his unforgettable laugh and giant bear hugs. Survived by his longtime significant other, Debra Davis, two children, Allen Messing, Sara Messing, Debra's children Melissa Davis, Nicholas (Karen) Davis, Debra's grandchildren, Allyia (fiancé, Presley Primmer) Kretschmar, Kohen Davis, Grayde Davis, three brothers, David (Bonnie) Messing, Henry "Hank" (Erin) Messing, Nick (Tracy) Messing, one sister, Patricia (Bob) Hagedon; and one brother-in-law, Ken McIntosh. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sally McIntosh. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at St. Patrick Church of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish, 920 Fulton Avenue, Grand Haven, MI 49417, with Rev. Fr. Dan Schumaker presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven.
