Mr. Gerald L. Oberlin's Obituary
Mr. Gerald L. Oberlin, age 62, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 14, 2014 at the Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. He was born August 14, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to Richard and Phyllis (Newville) Oberlin. Jerry was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam, was a life-time member of the VFW Post #7729, and past Post Commander of VFW Post #3734 in Fruitport. Mr. Oberlin belonged to the Carpenter’s Local 100 for 30 years, specializing in bridge construction, and retired in 2001. He was a devoted family man and family always came first. Jerry enjoyed snow birding in the south, fishing, playing cards, and hanging out with the boys. On November 11, 1972 he married the former Cheryl L. Davis in Muskegon and she survives him along with 3 children: Kelly Oberlin-Butler, Kristie (Art) Proctor, Jerri Rae Oberlin; 6 grandchildren: Ashley, Anna, Sarah, Lyndsie, Mike, Charli, and Stella; 1 great-grandson, Noah; extended family: Junior (Missy) Olson; brother, Daniel Oberlin; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jimmy Stark. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Oberlin. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210, with Rev. John H. Brown officiating.
