Gerald Allen "Jerry" Root's Obituary
Gerald Allen “Jerry” Root, age 83, of Norton Shores passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024. He was born May 11, 1940, to Bert and Mary (Schelhas) Root, in Muskegon, MI. He attended Muskegon Catholic Central High School. In 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Smith, and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2014. Jerry worked for Consumers Energy for 30 years and held various positions and worked on numerous large-scale projects across the state during that time.
Jerry was a lifelong outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed many years spending time with the family at the cabin on the Pere Marquette River. He was a man that liked simple pleasures like a good poker game, watching sports, music and being with friends. After retirement, Jerry and Sue enjoyed time together traveling throughout the United States.
Jerry will be dearly missed by his children, Stephen (Leigh) Root, Jeffrey Root, Scott (Barb) Root and Lisa (Robert Brumit) Root; grandchildren, Allison (Alex) Kraker, Olivia (Nick Espinosa) Root, Scott Root and Michael Root; sister, Peggy (Dick) Williams; brothers, Randy (Kathy) Root and Tom Root. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
