Gerald G. Thomas' Obituary
Gerald G. “Gerry” Thomas, age 86, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024 in Muskegon. He was born on January 31, 1938 in Grant, MI to Roy and Agnes (Fromby) Thomas. Gerry worked as a Millwright for SD Warren for over 44 years. He was a longtime and active member of Shores Community Church in Norton Shores. Gerry, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was affectionately known as 'Stretch' among his friends. He had a passion for fishing and hunting, often sharing his fishing wisdom: 'fish where the fish are.' Gerry will be fondly remembered for his love of singing and dancing, his talent for building and crafting, his knack for repurposing items, and his captivating storytelling. A resourceful inventor from a young age, Gerry was always ready to lend a helping hand. In his later years, he was lovingly cared for by the compassionate staff and friends at Christian Care. Gerry's enduring advice to everyone was: 'Jesus is all you need.' In September 1958 he married the former Sonja Shinew and they were married for 65 years. SURVIVORS include his wife, Sonja; five children, Pamela (Gary) Anderson, Lisa (Chris) Carson, Scott (Amy) Thomas, Jeanie Thomas, and Julie Thomas; 20 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Judé Thomas. Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Larry Thomas in 2017; and his sister, Carolyn Longcore. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 2PM Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Shores Community Church (3800 Lake Harbor Rd.) with Pastor Scott Thomas, Gerry's son, officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gerry’s name to the Center Lake Bible Camp will be appreciated.
