Gerald E. "Jerry" VanNortwick's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Emery VanNortwick, age 74, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2015 after battling cancer for 8 months. He was born September 18, 1940 in Muskegon to Emery and Lorraine (Vanderhaden) VanNortwick and had been a life-long resident of Laketon Twp. Jerry attended Laketon and N. Muskegon schools, and proudly served in the U.S. 7th Army, stationed in Germany from 1959-1961. He was retired from C.W.C. Textron, and a member of the U.A.W. Local 539. Jerry was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Whitehall and their Honor Guard and the Legion Riders. He enjoyed dance-skating, hunting, fishing, boating, and riding his Harley and traveling with his wife, Marga. He especially loved his visits with family. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Marga”; daughter, Debbie (Sean) Dean; son, Ken VanNortwick; granddaughters: Melissa and Emily; 4 step-daughters and their 7 daughters; brother, Robert VanNortwick; aunts: Joyce VanNortwick and Dorothy Schrumpf; and nephew, David VanNortwick. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:30 AM Monday, May 11, 2015 at the American Legion Post 69, 803 E. Colby St., Whitehall, MI 49461, with Pastor Wes Spyke officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the memorial service. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday along with Military Rites at Laketon Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Legion Post 69 or Harbor Hospice.
