Gerald B Wheeler's Obituary
Gerald B. Wheeler, age 91, went to be with his Lord on Monday, August 25, 2014. He was born in Lansing MI on March 22, 1923 to Wilfred and Berendena (Sprik) Wheeler, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. After graduating from Muskegon Heights High School he entered the United States Army. Beginning in June 1944 he saw combat duty with the 79th Infantry 315th Regiment in the Normandy Campaign and across most of France. Gerald received the Purple Heart Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster. On June 20, 1947 he married Clarissa Stegink. He worked his entire career at the U.S. Post Office in Muskegon retiring in 1978. Upon retirement he and Clarissa volunteered their summers at Center Lake Bible Camp in Tustin, MI. He and Clarissa spent over 30 winters in Florida, where they warmly worshiped at Fort Meade Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and home construction. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist church for 63 years serving as a trustee, deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and vice chairman. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Jerry (Andrea) Wheeler of Cadillac, MI, Patricia (Dennis) Sciba and James (Kathleen) Wheeler, of Norton Shores; five grandchildren, Jerrod Wheeler, Andrew (Carli) Sciba, Matthew Sciba, D.J. Wheeler and Travis Wheeler; brother, Weitse; brother, Harold (Maryanne) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarissa; a sister-in-law, Jean Wheeler; and a nephew, David Wheeler. A CELEBRATION of Gerald’s life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014, at 11 AM at Lakeside Baptist Church, 2250 Denmark St, Muskegon, MI 49441, with Jerry Wheeler Jr. and Rev.
