Gerald E. "Jer" Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Gerald Edward Johnson, age 59, died Friday afternoon, December 9, 2005. He was born May 12, 1946 in Muskegon to Lawrence and Gwendolyn (Gold) Johnson, and had been a resident for most of his life. Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He spent 10 years with the City of Muskegon Police Department as an officer and retired from Sappi Fine Paper Company after 17 years of employment. Mr. Johnson also belonged to the Masonic Temple in Muskegon and the VFW in Montague. On March 8, 1968, he married the former Jane “Lanny” Gay in Muskegon, and she survives him along with 3 daughters, Laurie (Michael) Postema of Fremont, Leanne (Matthew) Anderson of Norton Shores, Lynn Johnson of Grand Rapids; 7 grandchildren, Brett, Gabrielle, Brenden, Analiese Postema, Madelyn, Aidan, Annie Anderson, and baby Anderson due in March; 6 siblings, Joanne (Ted) Bensinger of New York, Paul Johnson of Holton, Norman (Irma) Johnson of N. Muskegon, Phil Johnson of Holton, Carol (Tom) West of Holton, Sherry (Clyde) Crawford of Hesperia; mother-in-law, Doris Pontious of N. Muskegon; brother and sisters-in-law, Jean Smethwick of Flint, Janet Nelson of Muskegon, Gary (Kathy) Gay of Flint, Nancy (Gary) Berdinski of N. Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews.
