Gerald E. "Jerry" Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Gerald E. “Jerry” Johnson, age 79, passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home. Jerry was born April 27, 1930 to Harry and Ruth (Walker) Johnson in Muskegon and was a lifetime resident of the area. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On October 12, 1957, he married the former Bonnie Allers and she survives him. Jerry was employed as an electronic technician at Gardner Denver in Grand Haven for 17 years and then for the Electricians Union #275, retiring in 1993. He was an active member of VFW Post 446, serving as commander from 1995 – 1996; a board member of Orchard View Senior Center, where they attended dinner and dances, and they also attended polka dances at the Conklin KC Hall. Jerry also loved playing cards and gardening. Along with his beloved wife of 51 years, Bonnie, Jerry is survived by his loving children, Gary (Marleen) Johnson and Lori Johnson, all of Muskegon and Richard Johnson of Grand Haven; 8 grandchildren, Dayna Ryan, Lisa Ryan, Derek Johnson, Michael Johnson, Carly Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Jessica Ryan, and Kameron Johnson; 3 step-grandchildren, Josh Williams and Dennis and Jordan Davis; 2 brothers, Donald (Becky) Johnson and Robert Clevenstine and 1 sister, Donna Soberalski; and several nieces and nephews. A VETERANS SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 with Chaplain Virginia McGowen officiating. Burial will be in Fruitport Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 446.
