Gerald "Jerry" E. Spencer's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” E. Spencer, age 59, of Ferrysburg passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born September 19, 1947, to Gerald F. and Beatrice A. (Miller) Spencer in Muskegon, MI; and he married Merrie Sue Trute May 3, 1969, in Muskegon at Central United Methodist Church.
Jerry graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1965 and earned an Associates Degree from Muskegon Community College. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, Oct. 1966 until Aug. 1970. He and his wife moved to Spring Lake from North Muskegon in Dec. 1989. He was a die setter for Trans-Matic Manufacturing in Holland, MI, for 20 years.
He was a member of United Methodist Church of the Dunes and was a former Boy Scout. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, small game hunting, and socializing with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Merrie Sue; daughter Angela Smith of Grand Haven; son Michael Spencer of Grand Haven; a grandson Codie Volkers; his father Gerald F. “Jerry” (Sarah) Spencer of Muskegon; two sisters, Connie (Alan) Grimard of Mobile, AL, Becky (Bob) Bell of Whitehall; nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice A. Spencer, in 1986 and his sister Marilyn Stanhope in 1993.
The service for Jerry will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Daniel Duncan officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven and at church Friday from 12-Noon until 1:00 p.m. Military Rites provided under the auspices of the Muskegon County Council VFW Honor Guard. Interment will be in Laketon Township Cemetery, Muskegon. Memorials to the American Lung Association or United Methodist Church of the Dunes are appreciated.
