Mr. Gerard 'Hap' Hasper's Obituary
Mr. Gerard ‘Hap’ Anthony Hasper, age 91, passed away March 9, 2015 at an area nursing facility. Hap was born April 30, 1923, in Muskegon to John and Anna (Brondyke) Hasper. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Silver Star. On August 20, 1948 he married the former Marietta Wheaton and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2013. Hap rose to Senior Vice President at Muskegon Federal Savings and Loan during his 35 year career. He served on the boards of the Credit Bureau, Muskegon General Hospital, and the Y’s Men’s Club. He was a long time member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon. Hap also gave many years of service as a cadet counselor at the church and volunteered with the Bethany Food Pantry. He enjoyed camping and time spent with family. He is survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. Hap was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Madeline M. VanderWeg; brothers, Henry J., Willard J., Donald R., and infant brother, Gerald J. Hasper. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 21 , 2015 at Bethany Church, 1105 Terrace St. with Pastor David Sieplinga officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Bethany Christian Reformed Church Memorial Fund.
