I (and many others) were looking forward to seeing him at our 50th class reunion in 2024. I remember Gib as a scholar and a good athlete. He was a member of the 1972 basketball team that was inducted in our school Hall of Fame. As a Facebook friend in the last few years, I appreciated his wit and knowledge about a wide range of subjects. Especially enjoyed his posts about his family, our small town, sports and school memories. He will be missed.
Gib was such a giving person. He had a mind like a trap, filled with a wealth of information. No matter what was going on around him, I never, ever saw him without a smile. You will be missed by so many.
Gib was a gifted writer. His heartfelt and often hilarious remembrances of youth and high school sports were a delight to read. Self-deprecating and full of life lessons, those stories always elevated his teammates, coaches, family and sports. Often, readers would encourage Gib to publish them. They contained none of the venom he released on political foes. But those sharp political diatribes were well researched, reasoned and convincing. Gib was a good citizen. I first met Gib coming to bat at Little League park in Hartford City. He was catching that day. I don’t remember what he said, but I do remember being distracted and striking out, smiling. Gib had the gift of gab. RIP Gib.
