Glada Lola Blanchette's Obituary
Glada Lola (Read) Blanchette passed away Friday, October 24, 2025. She was born on January 31, 1932 to Loren and Genevieve (Allen) Read in Copemish, Michigan. She moved to Muskegon in 1948 and graduated Muskegon Heights High School in 1950. Glada worked at General Telephone of Michigan, Kaydon Engineering, and Franklin Organ and Piano Studio. She married Marshall Blanchette on October 21, 1955. Glada had a passion for music, singing in the church choirs all her life including Lake Harbor United Methodist Church since 1967. She also sang in Celebration and the Singing Sisters of Lake Harbor, played organ and piano and even the ukulele. She wintered in Florida for 20 years and sang in the Showtime group there, making lifelong friends. She was an Auxiliary Officer and longtime member of Mona Lake Boating Club and Tatra Hall. Glada volunteered at Hospice, Friends of Frauenthal and was a Board member. She is survived by her two children, Gail (William) Barefoot, Mark (Michelle) Blanchette; grandchildren, Justin, Ben (Janina) & Laura Barefoot, Taylor (Liz), and Carly Blanchette; great grandchildren, Sebastian, Nick, Nash Barefoot and Juniper Blanchette. Grandson, Blake Blanchette preceded her in death. A CELEBRATION of LIFE service will be held at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 11AM. Pastor Mary Ivanov will officiate. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Lake Harbor United Methodist Church or Harbor Hospice of Muskegon.
