Mrs. Gladys Louise Beckman's Obituary
Gladys Louise Beckman, age 84, passed away Sunday evening, July 3, 2016 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. Gladys was born January 20, 1932 in Cook County, IL to Herbert and Anna (Peterson) Neumann. On May 17, 1952 she married Eugene John “Jack” Beckman in Brookfield, IL and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1984. Gladys worked as a bookkeeper from 1950-1974 and then as a social worker for the State of Michigan until her retirement in 1992. Gladys then volunteered for the American Red Cross in the Disaster Relief program for many years. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and her dog, Bruno. Gladys had a passion for genealogy, traveling as far as Sweden to research her roots. She was very supportive of her sons scouting endeavors, serving as den mother and watching them all become Eagle, and eventually, Double Eagle Scouts. Gladys also enjoyed all the time spent with her grandchildren and will be greatly missed by her children, Eugene John “Jack” (Gerri) Beckman Jr. of Ledyard CT., James Thomas (Pamela) Beckman of North Muskegon, and David Wayne (Angela) Beckman of Muskegon; grandchildren, April, Curt, Beth, Jennifer, and Jason; a brother, Herbert (Marilyn) Neumann of Oakland, CA; and several nieces and nephews. A PRIVATE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICE will be held. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to the Christian Care Nursing Center Gazebo Fund, 2053 S. Sheridan Dr., Muskegon 49442.
