Gladys J. Olthof's Obituary
Mrs. Gladys J. Olthof, age 83, of Spring Lake went to be with her Savior Jesus Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Hospice Residence at Heartwood Lodge. She was born October 29, 1934 in Muskegon to Jacob and Henrietta (Doorenbos) Medema. On November 25, 1955 she married Henry G. Olthof who preceded her in death on August 11, 1999.
Gladys was a member of Ferrysburg Community Church. She was a supporter of Christian Schools and Christian Missions and worked for Gospel Films in her younger years. She enjoyed knitting, traveling, sports, bowling, spending time with family and friends and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by five children: Henry, Jr. (Cindy) Olthof, Beverly (Mark) Gilmore, Nancy (August) Johnson, James (Tracey) Olthof, and Carol (Donald) Burley; thirteen grandchildren: Emily, Daniel, Mary (Jeff), Kathryn, Eric, Jr., Jakob, Christine, Karen, Richard (Karen), Anthony, Louisa, Kelsea, Kolton; and three great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Caleb, and Makennah. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Joan Medema, Coralyn (Bill) Postma, Sandra Olthof, and Marge Olthof. Gladys was preceded in death by her sister, Henrietta Poel; brothers: Fred, John, Robert, and Donald; son-in-law, Eric P. VanHorssen; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, April 13, 2018 at Ferrysburg Community Church with Rev. Nate Visker officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Thursday, April 12, 2018 at The Spring Lake Chapel (213 E. Savidge St.) and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Gladys may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
