Mrs. Gladys Jean Young's Obituary
Mrs. Gladys Young went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2014. She was born to Albert and Elizabeth (Gruber) Reeths on August 15, 1927. She was a life-long resident of the Grand Haven. She married Edmond Young on June 18, 1955. He passed away April 20, 1977.
She was employed by the Western Union Telegraph Co. for 23 years, working in several offices in Western Michigan. She retired in 1967. She was active in various areas of her church, served on the advisory board of NOCCOA Senior Center, worked as a volunteer at North Ottawa Care Center, and also volunteered at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Debra (the-late George) Trask and Corinne (Chet) DeMerrit; and one son, Ron (Judy) Young. She had 3 grandchildren (Nichole, Danielle, Derek), 3 step grandchildren and 6 great-grand children. She is also survived by one sister, Alice Mae (Truman) New in Texas. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Albert Jr. and Raymond. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Franz Gruber, who composed the music to Silent Night.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Wednesday, December 17 from 1 to 3 pm at Covenant Life Church, 101 Columbus, Grand Haven. A service of Celebration will follow at 3 pm with Pastors Bruce Ballast and Bob DeVries officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Covenant Life Church Building Fund (Phase2-covered drop-off). Envelopes will be available.
