Glen R. Derby's Obituary
Mr. Glen R. Derby, age 76, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen House. He was born March 13, 1932 in Muskegon to William and Harriet (Sandborg) Derby, and resided here his entire life. Mr. Derby worked at S.D. Warren before beginning his teaching career for Muskegon Public Schools, where he retired in 1992. He was Past President of the Muskegon City Teachers Association, and was involved with the M.E.A. Legislative Committee. Mr. Derby enjoyed woodworking and the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. On August 11, 1951 he married his loving wife Betty Goff, and she survives him along with his sons, Mark (Dede) Derby of Muskegon, and Michael (Cindy) Derby of Coopersville; 4 grandchildren, Katie (Jason), Brian (Deanna), Chad, and Ashley Derby; and Uncle Lou Jorissen. SERVICES will be 11 AM Monday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Pastor Tim Taylor officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 & 7-9PM Sunday. Private burial services will take place in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Wings of Mercy or Harbor Hospice will be appreciated.
