Gloria W. Newhof's Obituary
Gloria W. Newhof passed away March 30, 2012, in Whitehall, Michigan, full of the love and grace that drew friends and strangers alike. She was born July 12, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, to Louis Henry and Elsie (Striebing) Wieber. She attended Wittenberg and Northwestern Universities and graduated in 1942. She and Jay Newhof were married on June 16, 1945 and settled in Grand Rapids. Gloria became one of the first female elders at Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a long-time volunteer at Mary Free Bed Hospital. She loved filling her home with friends and family sharing meals and celebrating special events. When Jay died in 2005, she moved to Montague to be close to family. She is survived by daughters Nancy (Michael) Ullman and Susan (Paul Collins) Newhof; granddaughter Lindsay (James) Garvey; grandson, Max Ullman; nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids, April 28 at 2:30 pm, and Ferry Memorial Church, Montague, May 5 at 11 am. Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids and Pound Buddies Animal Shelter in Muskegon are suggested for memorial gifts. Share memories at the family’s on-line guest book @ www.sytsemafh.com.
