Gloria S. Shamess' Obituary
Gloria S. Shamess, age 80, passed Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born on May 1, 1936 to John and Stela (Shamess) Karrip in Grand Rapids. Gloria was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Norton Shores. Her passion was volunteering and she worked very hard at that with several organizations both in Canada and the U.S. Gloria also enjoyed music and gardening. The Shamess family would like to thank the management and staff at Grand Pines and North Ottawa Hospice for the wonderful care Gloria received. On October 8, 1960, she married Alfred Shamess and he survives her with their son, Chris Shamess; brother-in-law, John Shamess and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Robert and Alex Karrip. THE FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (185 E. Pontaluna Rd.) with Father James Honeycutt officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4PM on Sunday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100 with the Trisagion Service being prayed at 3:45 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church – Iconography Fund or Hospice of North Ottawa.
