Gordon Lee Hitsman's Obituary
Gordon Lee Hitsman, age 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at his home. He was born October 6, 1947, in Grand Haven, MI, to Meredith and Anna (Coveny) Hitsman. Due to the Vietnam War, Gordon did not have the opportunity to finish high school. Instead, he proudly served in the United States Army and was able to complete his GED. After serving his country,
Gordon worked over 20 years at BBi Enterprises as a hi-lo driver. He married Rose Yahne on October 21, 1967, in Grand Haven, MI and she preceded him in death on September 16, 2019.
Gordon was a true outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and trap. If he was outside, he was happy. He was a people person and had a gift of being able to carry on a conversation with anyone he met. He also had a way to keep people on their toes as he was known to be quite the prankster. From time to time you would also see him around town as he enjoyed picking up scrap. Most of all, he loved his family.
Gordon will be missed by his daughters, Malissa (Donald) Cook and Brenda Twa; sons, Jack Hitsman and Gordon (Jamie) Hitsman; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and brothers, Larry Hitsman and Dennis Hitsman Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; and brothers, George, Meredith, Edward and Jerome Hitsman.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 11 AM on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417, with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
