Gordon R. Van Hoeven's Obituary
Gordon R. Van Hoeven passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at age 87. He was born in Grand Rapids to Jake and Nella Van Hoeven. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy. Gord served in the Navy at the end of WWII. He attended Hope College and Western Theological Seminary and pastored churches in Spencer, Iowa, Homewood, Illinois and Spring Lake, MI. Gord was a great athlete and enjoyed sports such as ping pong, football, baseball, softball, and golf. He is survived by his brother, Dr. James (Mary) Van Hoeven. Gord was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His children include Steve (Maria) Van Hoeven, Carol (Don) Frifeldt, Joe (Alanna) Van Hoeven, and Mary Beth (Steve) Shumaker. Grandchildren include Travis (Joanne) Lang and their children, Graydon, Brinley, and Lawson; Kent, Adam and Isaac Van Hoeven; Joey, Jesse and Eric(Hannah) Frifeldt; Abbey and her son, Jonah, Jake, and Ben (Lindsey) and their son, Benjamin Van Hoeven and Gordy, Matt, and Josh (Melanie) Dahlman and the many Shumaker children and grandchildren. There will be a private family service officiated by Dr. Donald Van Hoeven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Sunshine (430 E. 8th St. Holland, MI 49423).
