Mrs. Grace H. Hislop's Obituary
Mrs. Grace H. Hislop, age 100, passed away Monday morning, May 6, 2013. She was born September 8, 1912 in Muskegon to Loren and Esther (Lewis) Hovey. Mrs. Hislop worked for the Muskegon Paper Mill and also for Dresser Industries/Lift Tech for 25 years as a supervisor in the sales office before retiring in 1971. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Naomi Circle, and was also a member of the Mona Lake Boat Club. Her first husband, Matt Somero, passed away in 1943. She then married Wilson Hislop and he also preceded her in death on June 14, 1965. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Lavon Holmes of Muskegon, Karleen (Clare) Gillespie of Fremont, Patsy Herbst of Fort Collins, CO, Daniel (Barbara) Hislop of Norton Shores; step-daughters, Coren Sue (Bill) Bomars of Spring Lake, Judith Henzler and Gail Birch both of Grand Haven; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by 2 infant sons; 2 sons-in-law, Roy “Dick” Herbst and Elvin Holmes; 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 24, 2013, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Henderson officiating. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. DONATIONS to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice will be appreciated.
