Gram James McGeorge's Obituary
Gram James McGeorge, age 62, of Spring Lake walked with grace and love into the arms of Christ at sunrise on January 5, 2009. He was born June 11, 1946, in Holland, MI, to Glen and Virginia (Michalski) McGeorge. He married the former Linda Furtney on October 7, 1967, in Jenison, MI.
Gram served as President, Vice President, and Director of Engineering for several electronics companies. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven and a former member of the Grand Haven Area Jaycees. A man of calm presence and peace, Gram spent his life living in the familiar moments of his family, friends, employees, and associates. He was a selfless man who always took time to know the details of others’ lives, and he loved to share in their successes, challenges, and moments of change. He will always be referred to as someone who derived his own happiness from seeing others smile. Raised as a child of the Coast Guard, “Big Water” and Islands brought him joy and peace. His happiest moments were spent cruising the shores of Lake Michigan and the Gulf of Mexico with his family and friends. His greatest days were spent on the beach in Florida. As he wished for, he was able to spend his last days, over Christmas, with his beloved family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his three sons: Jeremy (Laura) McGeorge of Shelburne, MA, and Jeffrey (special friend Shelby) McGeorge and Steven (special friend Mandy) McGeorge, both of Grand Haven; and his precious daughter, Lindsey McGeorge of Grand Haven; two grandchildren, Liam and Livia McGeorge; his brothers and sisters: Glen (Jan) McGeorge of Portland, OR, Thomas (Joanne) McGeorge of Casper, WY, Kim (Jeanne) McGeorge of South Haven, MI, Etta Mae Thede of Englewood, FL, Nancy (Jim) Sagorski of Caledonia, MI, Marjorie VanHorn of Grand Haven, Patricia (Jim) VanPortfliet of Hudsonville, MI, and David (Donna) Furtney of Port Charlotte, FL; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews; and his closest friends, Curtis Whiting and Edward Snider. As he moves on, he will surely leave behind a void of sadness and tears for all the lives he had touched.
The service for Gram will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Historic Cemetery.
