Gregory J. "Greg" Ruiter's Obituary
Gregory J. “Greg” Ruiter, age 83, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 27, 1941, in Grand Haven, MI, Greg was the son of Thomas and Anita “Louise” (Goven) Ruiter. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School with the Class of 1960 and proudly served six years in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. Greg was a dedicated and hardworking employee at SPX (formerly Sealed Power), where he worked in manufacturing for 32 years until his retirement in 1994. On June 17, 1966, he married the love of his life, Carol Hughes. Together, they shared nearly 59 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and countless adventures. He was a man of deep faith, Greg was a devoted member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fishing, hunting, and camping. Winters were spent as a snowbird in St. Petersburg, Florida, while summers were filled with gardening, yard sale treasure hunting, and quality time with family. Greg especially cherished time with his grandchildren, never missing a sporting event and always cheering them on as their biggest fan. Greg was known for his warmth and outgoing nature, he never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, and his genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Greg will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ruiter; two sons, Gregory (Jody) Ruiter and Rodney (Maureen) Ruiter; five grandchildren, Raymond (Winnie) Ruiter, Zachary (Kirsten) Ruiter, Nathan Ruiter, Haley Ruiter and Lindsey Ruiter; several great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Jay) Milkamp; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marsha Hoekstra. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, 973 W. Norton Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441 with visitation one-hour prior. He will be laid to rest at Norton Cemetery.
