Dr. Gregory Theophil Sobczak's Obituary
Dr. Gregory Theophil Sobczak, age 80, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 in Muskegon, Michigan. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan on January 25, 1943 to Albert and Ursula (Grzeskiewicz) Sobczak. Greg received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Wayne State University, and a Doctor of Medicine from University of Maryland. Following his education, Greg enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Winter Harbor, Maine where he served as a physician. He later became the local physician for Winter Harbor. Greg loved Maine and the relationships he formed there. After moving to Norton Shores, he made annual trips back to Maine, often bringing family members with him, to share in his love of the area. Greg practiced medicine at Norton Family Practice in Norton Shores prior to his retirement in 1998, but it was the relationships with his patients that made Greg the happiest. He enjoyed collecting bayonets and lived by the motto, “Life is short, eat dessert first”, a practice that he did often. On November 2, 2002, Greg married the former Deanna Lynn Cilla in Grand Rapids and she survives him along with 10 children, Eric (Ellen) Sobczak, Sean (Melissa) Sobczak, John (Shawn) Sobczak, Adam Sobczak, Teresa (Bradley) Jones, Rachel (Keith) Millhilser, Gina (Les) Sutton, Lisa (Brent) Daniell, Sarah (Matthew) Robertson, and Brandon (Amanda) Cilla; 11 grandchildren, Jada, Olivia, Hannah, Isabella, Lauren, Evan, Chance, Ariana, Claire, Ellie, and Kineshy, Ryan, Brendon, and Allison; brother, Steve Sobczak; brothers-in-law, Dr. Brian Cilla and Keith Cilla; many loving nieces and nephews, and his faithful dogs, Sully and Dabo. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dawn Sobczak. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Thursday, August 3, 2023 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 4, 2023 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St., Norton Shores, MI 49441) with Fr. Steve Geerling presiding.
