Gretchen B. Toy's Obituary
Mrs. Gretchen B. Toy age 100, passed away Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Sanctuary at the Oaks. She was born on September 10, 1912 to George and Amanda (Rudolph) Brown in Austin, PA. She had a desire for helping people through education. She received a BA in Nursing from the University of New York at Buffalo and a Masters in Social Work from University of Michigan. Gretchen retired from Reeths-Puffer Schools as a social worker in 1978. Prior to that, she had worked as a social worker for Muskegon Intermediate School District. Gretchen helped start both Pioneer Resources and the ARC in Muskegon and served on both boards. She was also involved in Community Health Programs both at the state and local levels. SURVIVORS include 2 daughters, Gretchen Toy of Montague and Judy (Charles) Schecter of Davison, MI; 2 grandchildren, Chuck Schecter and Jodi Schecter and a great-grandchild, Michael (Carly) Schecter. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. The family would like to thank the staff at Sanctuary at the Oaks and Harbor Hospice.
