Mr. Gustav Henry Asmus' Obituary
Mr. Gustav Henry Asmus, age 78, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at a local nursing home. Gus was born May 5, 1940 to Herman and Mayta (Heinemann) Asmus in Muskegon. He served in the Army National Guard. On November 10, 1979 he married Vickie Rosema. Gus was employed as a driver and salesman for Tyler Sales for 29 years prior to retiring in 2002. He previously owned and operated Club Safari and 2 gas stations; Gus’ Marathon in Lakeside and another on Apple and Pine. He also helped build Ravenna High School when he was in the construction trade. Gus was also state champion in arm wrestling for several years, and ranked 3rd in the world at one time. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Vickie; his children, Marcia Boone, Lynda (Aaron) Burns, Tony Asmus, Nick Asmus, Brent (Julie) Rosema and Brandon Asmus; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Lorraine), Dave (Rosemary) and Mike (Wendy) Asmus; close friends, Hank and Sue Zack and Howard Sullivan; and his fluffy dog, Chloe. Gus was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred. A MEMORIAL LUNCHEON will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 1-4 PM at VFW 7729, 6285 E.
