Gwendolyn Jean "Gwen" Engleright's Obituary
Gwendolyn Jean “Gwen” Engleright, age 96, of Nags Head, North Carolina, passed away Friday, January 26, 2018, at Sentara Northern VA Medical Center. She was born September 13, 1921, in Grand Haven to Louis and Harriet (Fisher) Breitels.
Gwen served her country in the Navy as a nurse during WWII, upon her return home she worked as a Registered Nurse at North Ottawa Community Hospital and Hackley Hospital, before retiring in 1970.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, James (Deborah) Engleright; grandchildren, Angela and Christopher Engleright and Chelsea and Patrick Mills; great-grandchildren, Nita and Trey Spencer; and numerous other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Mikeal Engleright in 1976; husband, Norman Engleright in 1980; her second husband, Gerrit Vander Haagen in 2003; and her daughter, Cheri Engleright in 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services – The Vanzantwick Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Vander Haagen officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post#28 Honor Guard. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service.
