Jeff, Mark, Dirk, Ken, Cindy, Jan et al

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I apologize for this delayed response, but I am just now receiving the news. I will hold you all in the Light.
When I think of your dad, i always think of the Appliance Center, and I think of him walking. I'm sure that those daily walks helped keep him going strong for 91 years. The last time I saw him was a few years ago at Jeff and Cindy's. Your dad had stopped in so that Jeff could help him out with an auto concern. Of course Jeff knew what the trouble was and I remember being particularly impressed by how spry Jim was as he was then in his late '80s.

The things I remember most about your Dad are how cool I thought it was that he owned an appliance store (that is from when I was little), and how much he loved his Georgie--that was just evident and touching. I'm sorry for your loss; keep each other close!

For many years Jim's daily walks took him by our house and we always had conversations about our mutual Presbyterian heritage. . . and the Ghana Day Care Center for which he cared so much. I'll always remember him as a "man on the move." Thanks for reminding us too of the time he gave to improve our community. Jim worked tirelessly also for years for Grand Haven First Presbyterian Church as caretaker of our church's history, and brought immense happiness to the many homebound parishoners he frequently visited. Jim often drove my dad, Rev. Wilbur Closterhouse, to Presbytery meetings and I know that car was filled with the laughter and talk of good friends. . . as well as a few theological debates. My sympathy is sent to each of you. Those who have given of themselves to others will live in every heart they have touched. That is Jim's legacy. Wishing you God's blessing at this difficult time.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jim. He was a tireless workeer, especially for the Lord! When I lived in Grand Haven and attended First Presbyterian Church Jim and Ruth were very kind and helpful to me. They continued to help and encourage me during my time at Seminary and I was grateful for their support. Jim stepd in as Acting Moderator and ordained me in First Presbyterian Church in June 1999 - a day I shall always remember! I was proud to call Jim a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
