Harold Lee Beek's Obituary
Harold Lee Beek, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He was born August 1, 1945, in Jamestown, MI, to Henry and Henrietta (Portenga) Beek.
Harold graduated from Hudsonville High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he spent over 33 years working for General Motors until his retirement.
On September 16, 1995, Harold married Mary Marie (Perry) Darcy in Jamestown, Michigan at the Noell Chapel. She survives him. He was an active member of both the VFW Derezinski Post 7729 in Muskegon and the American Legion Post 0127 in Dorr, MI.
An avid outdoorsman, Harold especially enjoyed hunting bear and deer. He loved fishing with his family and made it a point to reserve a week or two each year for camping trips with loved ones. For many years, Harold and Mary made their home on Gun Lake, where they relished pontoon rides, jet skiing, and spending quality time with a close circle of friends.
Harold was an avid golfer and served as the leader of the Rotunda Golf League at Harbor Lakes Encore Park in Port Charlotte, Florida. He and Mary spent over 20 winters there, forming many close friendships in the community.
SURVIVORS include his wife of 29 years, Mary; two children: Troy Beek and Wendy (Jon) Pawlawski; stepchildren: Kevin (Becky) Darcy and Kim (Mike) Farmer; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Doris Beek. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Wilbur “Bud” Beek and Ronald Beek; and sisters: Arlene Stauffer and Beverly Mosler.
SERVICES for Harold will be held 1:00 PM Monday, May 19, 2025, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 (231) 726-5210. VISITATION will be from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Monday prior to the service. Burial will take place in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
