Harold Bretschneider's Obituary
Harold Bretschneider, age 90, of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at a local care facility. He was born January 7, 1920, in Grand Haven to Henry and Alice (Braun) Bretschneider, and he married the former Bernice Bender on October 5, 1946, in Belleville, IL. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2003.
Harold was a 1937 graduate of Grand Haven High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 in Grand Haven, and a former member of the American Legion’s Honor Guard. He also served on the Ottawa County Sheriff Reserve for more than 20 years and was a member of the Tri-Cities Historical Society. A talented photographer, Harold owned and operated Bretschneider Studio in Grand Haven for many years and truly enjoyed his work. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and writing poetry.
Survivors include his daughter, Bett (Loren) Carlson of Grand Haven; his son, Doug (Nancy) Bretschneider of Grant; two grandsons, Adam (Sandra) Bretschneider and Clayton (Michelle) Bretschneider; two great-grandsons, Noah and Broden; and a cousin, Alice Seaver of Grand Haven.
The service for Harold will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, June 25, 2010, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Patricia Locke presiding. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post #28 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions in honor of Harold may be given to the Tri-Cities Historical Museum or to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
